STORY PREVIEWS: HEAVENSENT

There once was a small soul in heaven who was more precocious than all of the other little souls. His name was Milo. Each morning on his way to worship, his best friend Horace had to drag him by the hand to make sure he was on time. It was never that Milo didn’t get up on time or wasn’t prepared, for he loved worship more than anything else. It was just that he often got distracted along the way by the older souls. Many mornings as he traveled from his mansion toward the Holy Hill for worship, he’d see heroes of his from the Bible stories his Father always shared with him. Some mornings he ran into David and Joshua trading old war stories about leading the armies of Israel.

Other mornings he ran into Esther and Ruth telling stories of learning to have faith in God. Some mornings he ran into Adam and Eve and he was always amazed at how young they looked, as if they had never aged a day since they left earth. During his morning travels he always stopped to hear their stories and to ask them questions about their journeys on earth. Their stories always filled Milo with wonderment and joy. Often when Horace came by to announce to Milo that if they didn’t leave now, that they would be late and he knew that Emmanuel J. would much prefer that they be on time, Milo would have to ask one last question before he went.

This particular morning Horace had looked all over for Milo until one of the angels instructed Horace to look out on the garden terrace. There Horace found him in the center of the women’s morning tea party. Deborah, Sarah, Ruth, Naomi, Esther, both Marys, Martha and Eve were all in attendance. Today Horace approached Milo in the circle but was taken aback by Milo’s last question of the morning. He overheard Milo say, his voice just above a whisper, “Ladies, what is the best part about living on earth?” Each lady paused in her own way, posturing herself to answer the question, yet there was silence.
